After the applause has faded, there is a backstage reunion: Elaine Stritch (left), who originated the role of Joanne in the Broadway premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Company in 1970, compliments her contemporary counterpart, Patti LuPone, in her dressing room. The two had performed together in the Philharmonic’s March 2010 production of SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert.
